Our Standards
- Edges, Seems, and Joints: All edges ,seems and joints should be smooth (meaning easy to clean and not textured with dips, drags, and rough patches). Any caulk, acrylic or silicone , used to this end should be appropriately proportioned particularly where a painted surface meets an unpainted surface. Tape, solvent, or patience should be used to keep these products off of any surfaces not to be painted. Especially relevant around windows, air conditioners, fire alarms, light fixtures, molding, trim, ect. There should be no holes, gaps or oddly visible seems between any two painted surfaces unless it is clearly a function of design. When patching holes or gaps larger than 1/16, some planning should be used and two layers of filler should employed with 24hrs of dry time between to avoid the seem opening up after three months.
- PREP: Prep work should include the removal of the last painters bad work. Drips should be sanded or cut off. Prep should include the removal of chipped paint, and paint that will soon easily chip, in the form of bubbles or otherwise. These new edges should be sanded and filled when and if appropriate. When patching an existing wall its texture should be reproduced to the extent possible, a competent attempt should be visible.
- Water Damage: Areas with water damage should be cleaned, perhaps a larger areas than seems immediately evident. This larger area should also be treated with mold and water resistant sealer to extend the life of the current paint job be completed. This is said with the understanding that only fixing the leak will ensure the long life of even the best paint job in that area.
- Walls: Walls should be free of major blemishes. Meaning odd bumps or indents, major changes in texture. There should no visible texture left by the use of too thick a roller (rounded texture), too cheap a roller (small fibers left by the roller), too cheap a brush ( strong brush texture, and brush bristles ), too fast a job (roller streaks), too thin a job (uneven tinting). There should be no foreign objects in the surface of the paints (dust bunny's, bristles, hair, ect). There should be no drips.
- Finish: There will be no paint on objects not intended to be painted or intended to have been painted an different color. No paint what so ever on the floor, not paint on glass, or cabinet and door surfaces. There should always be left over paint clearly labeled for the average house owner to use for touch ups. It should be properly cleaned and recapped. There should be no old paint exposed when the tape is removed. Meaning a bit of white that pops out on the brown window seal now that the wall is blue. That area should be cleaned of the old paint, or the old paint dealt with in a away that it now blends with the window color.
